INTRODUCTION
TO FLATWATER KAYAKING
This instructional course is designed for those
who wish to acquire basic paddling skills before starting out on
their first kayak adventure. The 3-hour course is a great way to
learn how to enter and exit your kayak, forward and reverse
paddle strokes, turning stroke and steering technique, and the
fundamentals of water safety.

KAYAK WATER
SAFETY WORKSHOP
We recommend that paddlers of all abilities should
participate in a safety workshop at least once a year. Learn how
to recognize potential problems such as wind conditions and
tidal currents in this fun workshop. Topics include the
essential elements of keeping yourself safe on the water; wet
exit, paddle float re-entry, boat assisted rescue, as well as
how to execute a self rescue. Basic paddling skills are
necessary.

TIDAL
CURRENT AND NAVIGATION COURSE
Knowing how water flows is the key to an enjoyable day in
coastal waters. Observing and recognizing the current develops
an increased sense of comfort and an ability to navigate a boats
wake, tidal rips, and it's strong tide changes. Topics include
ebb & flow of tides, water velocity, wave dynamics, how to
navigate in currents and control your kayak in rough water
including maneuvers and techniques. No experience is necessary.

INTRODUCTION
TO THE SURF ZONE
After spending time paddling in the flatwater, explore the
opportunities of the surf zone at Nauset Spit. This course is
designed for those paddlers who are interested in learning how
to safely negotiate the break water. Topics include the
fundamentals of a beach landing and launching in the Atlantic
Ocean, bracing in breaking waves, how to ferry across a spit
current, cross eddy lines, and rip currents. Introduction to
Kayaking and Tidal Current Course is a pre-requisite or
equivalent paddling ability.

INTRODUCTION
TO OPEN WATER KAYAKING
One of our best skill development workshops, this course goes
beyond the basics and combines into one full day the fundamentals
of wave dynamics, navigating in wind and current, chart reading,
paddling and safety technique, advanced open water paddling
strokes, open water rescues, and landing and launching from an
ocean beach. Introduction to Kayaking and Water Safety are
pre-requisites.
