Jonathan
At the
University of Maine at Farmington Jonathan discovered you could study what
you enjoy, being outside and exploring the world through water and air! His
time at UM Farmington provided him with an extensive knowledge of the
principles and methods for curriculum design and training methods as well as
providing opportunities for teaching and instruction of individuals and
groups.
Jonathan continued his education with the American Sports and Education
Program: Coach Training (ASEP) eventually becoming the program director and
moving into teaching young snowboarding athletes at the Carrabasset Valley
Academy and Okemo Mountain School. Enjoying the coaching position so much
Jonathan took a position as a mentor and kayak expedition guide for Outward
Bound. While at Outward Bound he developed strategies for selecting and
using training/instructional methods and activities appropriate for the
situation when learning or teaching new concepts.
All this
outdoor fun and no safety? Understanding that being outdoors in any
situation demands a need for caution. Jonathan decided to add Wilderness
First Responder to his resume putting all he works with at ease!
Gathering all of his tools into his pack, he paddled over to the Goose for
an exciting new career! Jonathan is no stranger to the Goose as he is a Cape
Cod native. Coaching and developing skills in others is his passion. He
puts his training, knowledge and leadership skills to good use on the water
coaching, mentoring, and helping others to improve their skills.
