About Goose Hummock Marine
Goose Hummock Marine
Update - April 6, 2012
. Commissioning - The season is almost upon us
We are starting to fill out the schedule for spring commissioning. There are a few early birds willing to brave the April weather, who want to have their boats in the water before May 1. Based on the commissioning requests we have received so far, mid-May is more popular. Once the schedule fills out we will go the first-come, first-served method. So if you have a specific date in mind, it is best to get in touch with us earlier rather than later. For our regular customers - if you haven't received a commissioning request form give us a call/email/visit and we'll get you on the schedule.
Things to consider for the upcoming season:
Hull Maintenance - Compound & Wax for protection from salt and sun, Anti-fouling paint for protection from performance-killing growth.
Battery Prep - condition of batteries (anything older than 4-5 years is suspect), clean terminals and lugs, solid connections, and secured battery mounts.
Fuel - clean filters, unobstructed flow, no leaks, and fresh fuel. Since the introduction of ethanol in the gasoline supply, fuel system issues are probably the #1 cause of a ruined early season weekend.
Electrical system and electronics - do lights, pumps, navigation systems all work?
Safety equipment - are life jackets, first aid, flares, VHF radio, etc. on board?
Also - remember to check the drain plug before launching!
Lots of new electronics options
Electronics manufacturers have some new technology available this season. As mentioned before in our newsletter, Lowrance's StructureScan brings sonar technology previously available as high-end commercial or military applications to the mass market. Raymarine has released a new generation of Multi-function displays (MFDs), with state-of-the-art graphics, and an interface for transmitting the display to your smartphone. The new Raymarine MFDs also have an option for a built-in sounder module, eliminating the need for a separate sounder module on-board.
If you are interested in the new technology for your boat, we can walk you through the options. We have NMEA-certified installers in the shop, and would be happy to help with your electronics upgrade.
